Test room ambient noise levels are monitored throughout the testing with our bio-acoustic octave band monitor, assuring noise levels meet the testing regulation requirements. Testing can be performed at frequencies of .5K - 8K Hz, exceeding OSHA's requirements. Our system has the capability of giving voice instructions in 18 different languages. The subject will receive a summary after the test is complete. If an employee shows a standard threshhold shift (STS), they may receive an otoscope exam and may be re-tested the same day. On April 8, 1998, OSHAs revised Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) went into effect requiring fit-testing of all employees who wear respirators in the course of their employment. OSHA's statistics show companies continue to violate the standard year after year, making the list of top five cited standards for several years in a row and costing companies thousands of dollars in fines. All employees using a negative or positive pressure tight-fitting facepiece respirator must pass an appropriate qualitative fit test (QLFT) or quantitative fit test (QNFT) prior to initial use of the respirator. Midwest Occupational Testing can provide the annual training and qualitative fit testing (QLFT) for half-mask respirators using the protocols for isoamyl acetate, saccharin, bitrex and irritant smoke or we can provide the Quantitative fit testing (QNFT) for full-face and SCBA type respirators.
OSHA regulations require that some workers exposed to respiratory hazards receive Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT). Accurate testing interpretation and follow-ups are critical for effective screenings and surveillance of workers. Periodic testing of individual workers can detect breathing problems or significant changes in lung function at an early stage. Midwest Occupational Testing, Inc. can provide on-site pulmonary function test for one or all of your employees. Our state of the art spirometer manufactured by New Diagnostic Design (NDD) is capable of delivering accurate results using true flow ultra sound technology. Our healthcare professional will review and, if available, compare the results to the employees baseline test and report their findings.
